CATAWBA COUNTY, NC (FOX 46) - A man died in the hospital from his injuries after he was shot by a sheriff's deputy during a narcotics investigation in Catawba County, authorities say.
The incident happened at 4:15 p.m. Monday, November 28 at a home located at 1128 15th Street NE in Hickory.
According to Captain Brian Kelly, several deputies with the sheriff's office responded to the location after 'some information they received'. Capt. Kelly would not go into further detail regarding the exact information.
The sheriff's office then requested the assistance of the Hickory Police Department. HPD officers responded and assisted in securing the area.
Once on scene, a deputy shot a man during an investigation at the home. The man was transported to Frye Regional Medical Center. He was later pronounced dead at the hospital. At this time, the man's identity will not be released pending family notification.
The Hickory Police Department said their officers were not present at the time of the incident.
The State Bureau of Investigation is now conducting an independent investigation. An autopsy will be conducted on the body Tuesday.
