National Weather Service confirms EF1 tornado hit SW Charlotte

- The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg SC has confirmed an EF1 tornado touched down near Charlotte Wednesday night. One injury has been reported. 

NWS officials said the EF1 tornado hit around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 30 with a wind speed of about 90 miles per hour, and a maximum width of 150 yards. 

Its path length was approximately 2.18 miles. 

One injury has been reported although, at this time, it's unclear the extent of this injury.

NWS officials said the first segment of damage ran from the 1200 block of John Price Road to the northeast part of the Ayrsley subdivision. This path length was 1.68 miles.

The second segment of damage occurred from about 8500 Microsoft Way to West Arrowwood Road. This path length was about 0.5 miles, for a total damage length of 2.18 miles.

For reference...the Enhanced Fujita Scale classifies tornadoes into the following categories:

EF0...wind speeds 65 to 85 mph.
EF1...wind speeds 86 to 110 mph.
EF2...wind speeds 111 to 135 mph.
EF3...wind speeds 136 to 165 mph.
EF4...wind speeds 166 to 200 mph.
EF5...wind speeds greater than 200 mph.
