Suspect in custody after robbery at north Charlotte bank

- The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department has made an arrest in the Wells Fargo Bank robbery that occurred around 6 p.m. Friday night.

Police charged 47-year-old Anthony Caldwell with robbery with a dangerous weapon and conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon.

When officers were called out to the Wells Fargo, they learned that the bank was closing up for the night when three suspects who were armed with at least one firearm robbed the business.

After police discovered the suspects fled the scene on foot, they then set up a perimeter, prepared their helicopter and used the help of a K-9 and were able to locate Caldwell.

Caldwell was transported to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office where he was charged.

No customers were inside and no one was injured at the time of the robbery, police say.

Police are still investigating.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
