Man charged with DWI in October fatal Concord crash

A man involved in a fatal accident in October has been charged with a DWI, according to Concord Police.

Police responded to a fatal accident on Monday, October 3, on Branchview Drive. The crash happened between Lawndale Avenue and Union Street.

Lydia Christine Velasques died from the crash and her passenger suffered severe injuries, according to police.

Officers determined that the driver of the other vehicle involved, John Lowry Kennedy Jr., was traveling southbound when he crossed over the center line and hit Velasques's vehicle head on.

Both vehicle were estimated to be traveling at 50 MPH when the crash happened. Police said Kennedy was also injured as a result of the crash and was taken to CMC-Northeast.

Criminal charges were not filed on Kennedy at the time due to significant injures from the crash.

On Monday, December 12, Kennedy was arrested and charged with felony death by vehicle and a DWI. He received at $100,000 bond.
