Driver seriously injured after crashing into firetruck on I-85 NB

- A vehicle crashed into a fire truck early Tuesday morning.

The Concord Fire Department was responding to a to a separate vehicle crash on I-85 NB, north of mile marker 50 around 1:08 a.m., according to the Concord Fire Department.

The inside three lanes were blocked while authorities were cleaning up. 

A vehicle heading north in the inside first lane did not slow down and swerved to avoid the Highway patrol units, hitting a Concord fire truck in the front right corner, moving it several feet. The vehicle continued north stopping in the far outside lane, according to Concord Fire.

Firefighters with Concord Fire found the driver of the vehicle entrapped and requested additional assistance. Immediate care and extrication was provided for the driver.

Concord Fire said the interstate was shut down for about two hours while the incident was investigated.

The driver was taken by Cabarrus County EMS to the hospital while NC SHP  investigated the crash.

The vehicle and the fire truck are not driveable and had to be towed from the scene. No firefighters were inside the fire truck at the time of the crash. The only injury was to the driver of the vehicle.

The cause of the incident is unknown at this time.
