Three charged in part of suspected dog fighting ring in Huntersville

- The Huntersville Police Department has obtained 38 arrest warrants related to the search warrant issued in September in regards to 23 dogs seized from a home suspected of dog fighting, according to police.

Michael Cherry and Sean Burton are charged with 16 counts each of felony dog fighting and baiting and 1 count each of restraining dogs in a cruel manner. Rondale Jetton is being charged with 4 counts of cruelty to animals.

The dogs were seized from the home on Tuesday, September 29.

A search warrant was executed by Huntersville Police along with Charlottle-Mecklenburg Police Animal Care and Control and American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty at the 16000 block of Statesville Road regarding a dog fighting scene.

Officials say they received information that numerous dogs showing signs of bite marks and other injuries associated with dog fighting were on the property, along with tools and equipment commonly used in training dogs for fighting. Sixteen adult dogs and seven puppies were removed from the property, according to ASPCA.

The dogs were taken to a temporary shelter where they will be provided medical care and behavioral enrichment by ASPCA until custody is determine in court.
