Charlotte detective injured in crash

An on-duty Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department detective was transported to Carolinas Medical Center, after being involved in an accident on the outer loop of I-485 East near Nations Ford Rd.

According to CMPD, the crash happened just after 7PM.

The State Highway Patrol responded to the scene and found the male detective lying on the road not far from where the unmarked SUV flipped. He was ejected during the crash.

Investigators believe the officer lost control and veered left into the median wall. Wet roads are being considered as a contributing factor to the wreck.

Earlier Tuesday, Medic said they responded to 28 crashes, twice as many as this day last.

CMPD said that the officer is now in stable condition.

Two other vehicles were involved in the crash. One driver was transported to CMC-Pineville with non-life threatening injuries. The three in the second vehicle were not injured.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call the Major Crash Unit at 704-432-2169.
