Charlotte man dies after being hit by car Monday night

- A man has died after being hit by a car Monday evening, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police. 

Officers were called to the 3300 block of Freedom Dr. near Ashley Rd. around 8:30 p.m. on Monday. Upon arrival they found the victim,Larry Irby, 62, lying in the roadway.

Irby was transported to the Carolinas Medical Center Main with life-threatening injuries. He scummed to his injuries on Tuesday.

The driver of the 2001 Mercury that struck Irby, Antrez Guy, 31, was not injured in the accident.

According to CMPD, Guy was driving south on Freedom Rd. when Irby stepped off of the median and began walking through the lanes, headed for the other side of the roadway. As he was crossing Guy hit him.

Guy stopped the car immediately. Speed and alcohol are not being considered contributing factors for Guy in this case. Irby's use of alcohol or drugs is unknown at this time.
