10-year-old girl dies one week after Steele Creek crash that killed 2 others

- A 10-year-old who was seriously injured during a crash with a tractor trailer in the Steele Creek area has passed away one week following the accident.

According to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police, Jaleyah Cordova, died on July 6 at Carolinas Medical Center as a result of her injuries sustained in the crash. Two other people, 32-year-old Ignacio Cordova and an unidentified 14-year-old boy, were also killed.

The accident happened just before 1 p.m. on June 29 in the 11100 block of Steele Creek Road near Westinghouse Commons Drive between a Volkswagen Jetta and a tractor trailer.

According to investigators, the tractor trailer was traveling north when the Jetta suddenly swerved into its lane resulting in a collision. Witnesses stated that the Jetta was passing other vehicles prior to the crash. 

The driver of the tractor trailer was Larry Patrick, 63. He was uninjured in the accident. 

The crash is still under investigation to determine if excessive speed was a factor for the Jetta. It was not a factor for the tractor trailer.
