CHARLOTTE, NC (FOX 46 WJZY) - A teenage girl was hit by a falling bullet during a 4th of July celebration at Romare Bearden Park, according to Charlotte Mecklenburg police.
The 17-year-old girl says she was standing near the stage watching the band during the 4th of July festivities when she felt a burning sensation on her right foot.
When she looked down, she saw that she had been struck by a bullet. The bullet pierced her shoe, but the injury to her foot was minor. She received a bandage on scene and was not taken to the hospital for treatment.
CMPD say there was no indication that she was targeted or that the shooter was anywhere in the crowd or even in the immediate vicinity. They believe the teen was most likely hit by celebratory gunfire – people irresponsibly shooting up into the air.
No suspects have been identified and there is no information on where the shot originated.
