Sewage spill sinking people's plans at Landsford Canal State Park

-

It's a quiet than usual afternoon at Landsford Canal State Park and Lancaster.

"i was really looking forward to it and I came here I can't go swimming," said one visitor.

Others showed up at the state park Saturday not aware of Friday's sewage spill in south Charlotte.

Officials say 180,000 gallons of waste water spilled into a stream which connects to Sugar Creek.

"I was planning here to come swim but I have sensitive skin and stuff like that so I just didn't want to go in the water," she added.

"We're just not going to risk it because I don't know how safe it is," said another visitor.

My first reaction is I thought it would be alright then when I talked to the ranger he definitely recommended me not going and he told me the magnitude of it. I decided no I'm not going to go," said a Rock Hill resident.

Park manager Al James tells FOX 46 although the park is still open he's telling guest not to get into the water and not to fish until the advisory is lifted.

"I'd say 90% of people have taken our heed and gone to other places to boat," said James.

James expects the warning to remain throughout the weekend
