Elderly woman comes face-to-face with robbers inside her home

- Caught in the act and busted after breaking in: That's what went down when an 80-year-old woman walked into her home and found strangers inside.

"You think when you are out in the country like this, you are not going to have that kind of problem like you would in Charlotte,” Sifford Road neighbor Susan Grice said.

Investigators tell FOX 46 the woman came home to find a tan colored sedan parked in her carport. Thinking it was one of her family members, she thought nothing of it and walked inside.

"She walks in on somebody with a gun on her, that's pretty shocking to me if I were to walk in my house," Grice said.

The young robber, holding the elderly woman at gunpoint, then reportedly took the woman into the back of the house and told her ‘he didn't want to hurt her.’ Amid all the chaos, she was able to call 9-1-1, but by the time help arrived, the suspects were gone.

The 80-year-old woman told deputies she only encountered one suspect but they have reason to believe two people were inside the house.

"Thankfully they did not hurt her but it's just terrible for a person who is living alone and to have that kind of experience and thinking they are in a pretty good area," Sifford Road neighbor Sammy O’Banion said.

Neighbors surprised by how brazen the robbers were.

"You would think that people be dumb enough to do something like that would have a little fear of people that might have guns and shoot'em but apparently not," O’Banion said.

Some people believe the robbers may have targeted that home specifically because of where it's located.

"The neighbor next door has the fence and there is nobody directly across from her," Grice said.

Their hope now, is that this rather unusual event in their usually calm neighborhood won't become the norm.
