UNION COUNTY, NC (FOX 46 WJZY) - An Indian Trail man is in custody after breaking into his girlfriend's home, assaulting her mother and stabbing a friend who was sleeping over, deputies say.
The incident happened about 5:43 a.m. Wednesday at a home in the 5000 block of Waxhaw-Indian Trail Road, about 12 hours after the suspect posted a $15,000 bond, according to the Union County Sheriff's Office. The suspect had been arrested Tuesday after allegedly threatening his girlfriend with a gun and attempting to strangle her.
"If it caused death to other people. He didn't care. I do know this. We took a gun of off him yesterday. if he had had that gun we would've had multiple deaths at that residence," Union County Sheriff Eddie Cathey said.
Deputies say Quinton Brice Person, 20, of Indian Trail, shattered the glass in a rear door before entering the home. They say he assaulted his girlfriend's mother before entering an upstairs bedroom where his girlfriend and her friend, the victim, had been sleeping.
Deputies believe Person's girlfriend was the target of the assault, but she hid in a closet when Person attacked her friend who was in the bed.
The victim was stabbed in multiple places, including her abdomen. She was taken to CMC-main for treatment. She is expected to be okay.
Deputies and detectives believe Person drove around the Wesley Chapel/Weddington area for a period of time, including driving through several fences bordering a cow pasture on Waxhaw-Indian Trail Road. Deputies eventually caught up to Person after one of the tires of his vehicle became disabled and he ran into a ditch near Siler Presbyterian Church where deputies took him into custody.
Deputies say the assault is a continuation of violence that began just before noon Tuesday. Authorities responded to the Auto Bell in Indian Trail after Person allegedly assaulted his girlfriend by pointing a gun and also attempting to strangle her in his apartment. She was able to escape and make it to the Auto Bell where she barricaded herself in a bathroom.
"He is a dangerous guy. It was obvious from yesterday (Tuesday) to today (Wednesday), everything he's done with intent of hurting this lady," Union County Sheriff Eddie Cathey said.
Person was initially charged with:
Assault with Deadly Weapon
Assault by Strangulation
Assault on Female
Carrying a Concealed Weapon
He now faces additional charges of:
First Degree Burglary
Assault with Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill Inflicting Serious Injury
Attempted First Degree Murder
Injury to Real Property
Felony Violation of a Domestic Violence Protection Order with a Deadly Weapon
His bond is set at $1 million but Sheriff Eddie Cathey very vocal that a bond shouldn't even be given.
"I don't think a bond should be set. I think he should be put back in jail until his court date. That would give the family a little more security," Union County Sheriff Eddie Cathey said.
