Shoplifting suspects facing charges after hitting patrol car and resisting arrest in Gastonia

- A duo caught shoplifting at the Westfield Eastridge Mall in Gastonia Friday is facing several charges after hitting a Gastonia patrol car and resisting arrest.

Gastonia Police were called to the Victoria's Secret store on Friday around 10:40 am regarding two people who allegedly stole a large quantity of merchandise from the store.

Police say Jontiana Burris, 24, of Gastonia, and Courtland Sadler, 18, of Cherryville stole over 200 items from the store, which were later recovered.

Police spotted a vehicle the two were driving in the parking lot and tried to stop them. That's when Burris hit a patrol car and tried to leave the scene. The damage to the patrol car is estimated at $10,000.

After resisting arrest, the two were taken into custody.  Burris is charged with Conspiracy, Resisting Arrest, and Hit & Run. Sadler is charged with Felony Larceny & Resisting Arrest. Both were taken to the Gaston County Detention Center.

Their bond was set at $30,000 each.
