NC couple charged after infant found in 'self-made' cage

- A Madison County couple has been arrested after deputies discovered their infant confined inside a 'self-made' cage, according to the Madison County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies said on Wednesday, August 2 they were called to a home in Mars Hill in regards to a child neglect complaint. Madison County Dept. of Social Services also responded.

While searching the home deputies found an infant in an upstairs bedroom confined in a 'self-made' cage.

Deputies immediately freed the infant from the cage and sought medical treatment. Detectives investigating this case were able to determine that the infant had been confined to the cage for 23 hours or more daily and only given minimal amounts food.

Haley Trantham and Vincent Lee II were arrested and both charged with two counts of child abuse. Haley was also charged with possession of marijuana. Both are currently in the Madison County Detention Facility.
