Concord police officer attacked by dog lost part of thumb

- A Concord police officer bitten by a dog on Monday has lost part of her thumb, according to the Concord Police Department. 

Officer Julia Soares was serving an arrest warrant in the 200 block of Clintwood Dr. around 10:30 a.m. on Monday when she was attacked by a dog in the front yard of the home.

The officer was transported to CMC- Main for treatment. A portion of her right thumb was bitten off by the dog and could not be surgically reattached. However, doctors expect her to make a full recovery.

Soares has been released from the hospital and is now at home.

Soares has been employed with the Concord Police Department for two years working in the Baker district. The department says they look forward to having her back to full duty soon.
