YORK COUNTY, SC (FOX 46 WJZY) - A York, SC couple is devastated after they say their dog was tortured while missing.
Amanda Bruce and her boyfriend Samuel Hamilton say their pit bull mix, Diamond, went missing and returned a day later with holes in her paws and a broken hip that will require her leg to be amputated.
"She found her way home Thursday morning and she came from around the house and just fell," Bruce tells FOX 46 Charlotte. "That's when I just freaked out."
Missing for 24 hours, Bruce and Hamilton originally thought Diamond may have been kidnapped or laying dead on the side of the road.
"This road is busy, so we thought she may have been hit by a car or something," Hamilton said.
The couple, who contacted York County Animal Control when the dog went missing, took Diamond to a veterinarian, and said the injuries were consistent with torture.
Diamond's leg will need to be amputated as a result of her injuries
A neighbor reportedly told the couple that their dog had recently gone missing and that it returned home badly injured in need of veterinary care.
The York County Sheriff's Office and Animal Control are investigating, but so far no arrests have been made.
The mother of three says the entire ordeal has been devastating, especially for her children. Bruce tells FOX 46 Charlotte that they have an idea of who could be responsible for the abuse to their beloved pet, but don't have any proof.
A normally warm and friendly dog, the couple says the ordeal has traumatized Diamond
"I want to see justice for my dog. If it's putting him behind bars, so be it," she said. "I got a lot of hatred in my heart right now."
A GoFundMe account has been set up to offset the costs of Diamonds surgery.
