CHARLOTTE, NC (FOX 46 WJZY) - Three people were taken to the hospital and 17 displaced from their homes after a tree came crashing down on to an apartment complex overnight in west Charlotte, police said.
The tree fell around 11 p.m. Monday, August 7 at the Miracle House of Hope Ministry located at 1826 Merriman Avenue. The building serves as a place for those on the road to recovery from drug addiction.
Authorities on scene tell FOX 46 Charlotte lightning struck the tree causing it to fall on top of the building. Part of the roof, wood and some installation reportedly came down on one of the residents' head.
The building has been deemed unsafe by authorities.
Three vehicles in the parking lot were also crushed by the large tree.
