Escaped Lincoln, Mecklenburg inmates captured in Raleigh

- Two inmates from a Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office prisoner transport van escaped from the vehicle as it traveled Western Boulevard in Raleigh Friday.  They were recaptured by Raleigh Police less than an hour later.

Logan Gene Long, 24, of Lincolnton and Damarcus Dashaun Dixon, 19, of Charlotte were being transported to Polk Correctional Institution in Butner after appearing in court in Lincoln County.  The men escaped through the back door while the vehicle was at a traffic light on Western Boulevard in Raleigh.  Both men were shackled and handcuffed.  Officers have not determined how the men were able to get the door open.  Other inmates in the van did not try to escape.  The other inmates are being transported to several other prison locations.

Authorities describe Long as a "habitual" felon. Dixon is facing a conviction for robbery with a dangerous weapon that occurred in September.
