SHELBY, NC (FOX 46 WJZY) - A five-year-old boy continues to recover after a fire that claimed the life of his older brother.
The two were inside a house on Lineberger Street Monday night when the fire started. The family is crediting a neighbor for getting the five-year-old out before conditions became any worse inside the home.
"I'm not a hero," said the neighbor, Joseph Hill. "I'm just an average guy. To me, I did that because I've got kids. If something happened, I'd want someone to save my kids."
Hill said he jumped into action once he saw the fire and heard there were children inside.
RJ's older brother, JJ, died in the blaze. RJ was left with burns from the fire and is being treated at a hospital in Winston-Salem.
Friends and family have set up a GoFundMe page to help the family with funeral and medical expenses.
