The sheriff's office says Terrell David Thomas, 29, was arrested in New York on Thursday with the assistance of the FBI.

Thomas is charged with attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury.

Thomas is in the Metropolitan Detention Center with no bond, according to authorities.

Thomas will have an extradition hearing for the aforementioned charged in Cabarrus County, according to the Cabarrus County Sheriff's Office.

The other suspect, Darren Manuel was arrested Wednesday, December 2, and charged with attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon and assault with a deadly weapon.

A federal affidavit states Manuel contacted his girlfriend on Thursday, December 3, and told her to contact his co-conspirator in this case and tell him that the victim, McKee, had "to go," (i.e. be assassinated) and he didn't' care when or how it happened but he had "to go."

43-year-old Greg McKee of Gastonia is recovering and is in two weeks of rehabilitation.

The sheriff's office said McKee and his family stopped at a rest area Saturday evening, November 28, near Dale Earnhardt Boulevard and Exit 60. McKee went inside while his family waited in the car.

As he washed his hands, McKee says two men approached him. They stood on each side of him, and one of the men showed a gun.

As McKee ran from the restroom, he was shot in the back. The two men ran away.
