MORGANTON, NC (FOX 46 WJZY) - A 6-year-old boy drowned in a hotel pool Saturday night, according to Morganton Police.
This incident occurred at the Comfort Inn on Burkemont Ave in Morganton. The boy was traveling for a baseball tournament with family, visiting from the Waynesville, NC area, officials say.
Police say the boy moved to the deeper end of the pool, holding the pool's edge when his hands slipped off. The child was pulled from the water, given CPR by adults nearby and then taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Police say their investigation shows the child was swimming with friends and family at the time of the drowning.
Police believe this was accidental and that no charges are expected to be filed.
