About 80 bus passengers were temporarily stranded along Interstate 85 in Rowan County Tuesday morning after their bus caught fire.
The Salisbury Post's Shavonne Potts reports only one woman may have suffered minor injuries. That passenger loaded herself onto a stretcher for precautionary medical treatment.
The remaining passengers were picked up by school buses from the Rowan-Salisbury School district, the newspaper reported. The newspaper reports the bus was traveling to Atlanta and Charlotte from New York. Passengers used emergency windows to escape the flames at the front end of the bus.
The bus fire shutdown two left lanes on Interstate 85 southbound between Old Union Church Road (Exit 79) and Long Ferry Road (Exit 81).
