Daimler Trucks in Cleveland confirmed to the Governor's office that it will layoff 936 people in its Rowan County operations. The company says layoffs will begin March 5, 2016, and continue for two weeks. The impacted employees' last day of work will be Friday, January 8, but they will be compensated through March 5.
Most layoffs will come to people working as assemblers (666) and utility team members (107), although several others positions are listed.
The plant manufactures heavy-duty Freightliner and Western Star trucks. The facility currently employs approximately 3,100 workers, which will decrease to 2,200 after the temporary adjustment, according to Daimler Trucks.
