Shootout with CMPD related to Burned Body Case in Gaston Co.

CMPD officers who tried to serve a murder warrant in a case that already involved a body in a burning vehicle in a school parking lot, and a separate shooting in Charlotte last week ended up in the middle of another shooting Sunday evening.

CMPD says they were trying to serve a warrant for Germonta Wallace, 30, wanted for the murder of Norris Martin, the man found dead in a burning vehicle at Warlick Academy December 30, 2015. Police say when they approached a home on Watson Drive, Wallace came outside and began shooting at officers. Officers shot and killed Wallace, but not before Officer Jessica Zinobile was shot in the ankle. She's expected to be okay.

During the officer-involved shooting, police believe Marquez Springs-Owens ran into the house. He ended up surrendering to the SWAT team. He's also been charged with Martin's murder, the man law enforcement found in the burned vehicle. He's also charged with robbery, kidnapping, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, among other charges.

Last week, police arrested a third man, James Evans, for Martin's murder. Police found out about Martin's murder last week after another man was shot in the 6600 block of Woodland Circle.
