After Acquisition. Family Dollar CEO Steps Down

Dollar Tree has finished its acquisition of Matthews-based Family Dollar, and as a result Howard Levine, the CEO of Family Dollar, has announced he's stepping down from the company.

When the acquisition was approved the company announced Levine would remain on board to help with the transition. Levine officially steps down from the company January 15, 2016.

The CEO of Dollar Tree, Bob Sasser, said Levine leaves having completed everything needed to combine the two companies. "He has been an integral leader at Family Dollar for more than two decades, and has accumulated a tremendous amount of knowledge and experience," Sasser said. "I would like to commend Howard for his many years of service and leadership at Family Dollar, and to thank him for his partnership during our integration."'

The Levine family opened its first Family Dollar store in Charlotte in 1959. It's unclear if any jobs in the Charlotte area will be impacted by the acquisition.
