UNC commit gets jersey retired

East Lincoln High School senior Chazz Surratt is on his way to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill -- and it's for certain he'll now always be remembered at his home.

Surratt had his jersey No. 12 retired on Wednesday evening.

The UNC commit will play quarterback for the Tar Heels after de-committing from Duke University. He said his reason for backing out on Duke -- the Heels will let him play both football and basketball.

Surratt is the point guard for East Lincoln's basketball team. He has a full scholarship for football and will be a preferred walk-on in basketball, he said.

"They mentioned that I can play basketball and then I got on the phone with (head coach) Roy Williams and he said I could come down and play if I wanted to and chose Carolina," Surratt said.

Surratt is currently rehabbing an elbow injury and is sidelined from basketball for the time being.
