86th annual Mallard Creek Barbecue, where pork meets politics

- The 86th annual Mallard creek Barbecue took place Thursday. It's where pork meets politics.

Folks got the opportunity to shake hands with Charlotte's next mayor, the election is a little more than two weeks away.

Students from Charlotte Country Day School got to meet the people they'll be voting for, for the first time.

A handshake, smile and eye contact is the way some more experienced voters are vetting their choices.

"Once you meet someone and there's a connection with them on a personal and political level, that makes all the difference. You vote for people you like and trust. When you meet them, you get the opportunity to explore that." Jeff Nadeau, voter said.

And for Charlotte's two mayoral candidates, winning that trust is what this day was all about.

Organizers say they expected about 20,000 people at the event. About $40,000 to $50,000 was raised from all the barbecue and stew sold. The money will go to local charities.
