CMS board votes to extend Superintendent's contract

- The Charlotte-Mecklenburg School board voted 6-3 to extend Superintendent Ann Clark's contract by one year Tuesday night.

She would hold her position through June 2017 then the board will begin a national search for a new leader.

The initial 18 month contract was set to expire July 2016.

“I care deeply about the students, families and employees of this amazing school district and look forward to continuing in my role as superintendent,” said Superintendent Ann Clark, who has held a variety of teaching and administrative positions since joining CMS in 1983. “It has been my honor and privilege to be a part of Team CMS. I remain fully committed to this district, every member of the Board and helping all of our students achieve academic success.”

The board voted to adopt a search timeline for a long-term superintendent at its February 23 meeting.

Student assignment came up in the meeting as well. Parents argued both side of the issue.
