Five-year-old dies after crash, driver charged with DUI

- A 5-year-old boy passed away in the hospital Friday after being involved in a car crash in Lancaster County the day before.

34-year-old Lonnie Patterson was driving on Flat Rock Road with Jashawn Patterson, 10, and Jamarei Patterson, 5, when his car veered off the road hitting a utility pole and tree before overturning, according to the S.C. Department of Safety.

The S.C. Department of Safety says all passengers had on their seat belts when the crash happened. Jashawn is still being treated for injuries at Richland Hospital in Columbia, S.C.

Lonnie is charged with child endangerment, felony driving under the influence, and felony driving under the influence with death result.

Lonnie is being held without bond.

A GoFundMe page has been set up for the two boys.
