Girlfriend arrested for Grier Heights murder

- Charlotte-Mecklenburg police have arrested the girlfriend of a man killed Tuesday in the Grier Heights neighborhood for his murder.

Around 3:30p, responding officers discovered a man suffering from a gunshot wound in the 400 block of Skyland Avenue. The victim, Anthony Lamont Howie was pronounced dead by MEDIC.

Detectives believe Howie and his girlfriend, Shirley Takeisha Martin, were involved in a fight before the shooting. Officers located Martin driving her vehicle and attempted to pull her over but she fled. Police followed her home, where they took her into custody. Two small children riding in her car were injured.

Martin was transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office and charged with 1st Degree Murder, two counts of Child Abuse, Failure to Heed Blue Light and Siren, Operate a Motor Vehicle to Elude Arrest and Resist, Obstruct and Delay. She was also issued a citation for two counts of Failure to Properly Secure a Child in Child Passenger Restraint System.
