Driver that caused deadly home explosion 'on the run'

- The Cleveland County Highway Patrol are actively looking for Thomas Pruitt,24, who was indicted Monday on two counts of misdemeanor death by motor vehicle.

On Sunday, February 28, Pruitt ran off the road and drove into propane tanks connected to a home, causing that house to explode and kill the elderly couple who lived inside.

Firefighters pulled Johnie and Naomi Newton out of the home and took them to the hospital, but the husband and wife died at the hospital 6 minutes apart from each other Monday morning. Pruitt went to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The accident and explosion happened near Stamey Road and Stagecoach Trail at about 10:30 p.m. Sunday.

We don't yet know what caused the driver to run off the road. If Pruitt is found he will be arrested and a court date will be set, according to Cleveland County Highway Patrol.
