The health department says they have three confirmed cases and four probable cases of mumps in Mecklenburg County.
Two of the confirmed cases are at Loews.
The third confirmed case and one probable case of mumps is at UNC-Charlotte.
Officials say a notification letter from the health department to students and faculty was sent out on Monday.
Mumps is spread by coughing or sneezing, shaking hands, or touching surfaces that have been infected.
This is the highest number of cases in Mecklenburg County in at least 10 years.
