Police: Weddington man dies from gunshot wounds after weekend party

- Gaston County police say an early morning shooting outside of Mt. Holly has turned into a homicide investigation. 

Officers say at approximately 6:30 a.m. Monday, February 29 they were contacted by CaroMont Regional Medical Center Emergency Department regarding a man in his 30s who arrived at the facility with a gunshot wound. 

Upon arrival, police were told the patient died from his injuries.

The investigation determined the victim, identified as Shomari Kimani Lewis, 37 years old of Weddington, NC, had been shot at 500 Lanier Avenue Extension, just outside Mt. Holly in Gaston County. 

Police say information gathered indicates Lewis was shot during a large party and transported by party goers to the Mt. Holly Emergency Center. 

Officers say it was discovered Lewis was the father of a 5-month-old child.
