Amateur-built aircraft crashes on island along the Pee Dee River

- A Rocket II, experimental, amateur-built aircraft crashed on an island in the Pee Dee River in Cheraw, South Carolina late Thursday morning.

The pilot Walker Hester, 59, died in the plane crash, according to Chesterfield County Coroner's Office.

There were no passengers on the plane.

The FAA is investigating, and the National Transportation Safety Board will determine probable cause.
