Another woman claims she was drugged at Epicentre bar: Report

- Another woman has come forward alleging that she was drugged at a bar in uptown Charlotte.

A 23-year-old woman was hospitalized after she says she was drugged at Suite at the Epicentre on East Trade Street Friday night, according to Charlotte Mecklenburg Police. The woman told police she believes someone may have put a drug in her drink.

According to police, the woman was drinking with friends when she blacked out and became ill. Her friends called and ambulance and she was taken to Novant Presbyterian hospital.

The incident report was filed on Wednesday. The woman told police she was not injured or assaulted.

Police say Suite Charlotte and the Epicentre are fully cooperating with the investigation.

Earlier this month, another woman came forward alleging that she had been drugged at a bar at the Epicenter.

Leah McQuirck says she was turned away by an officer who did not taker her seriously when she tried to tell them she believed she was drugged while at Rooftop 210 at the Epicentre in uptown Charlotte. She claims the officer told her to leave the station, return to the bar where it happened, and call 911.

“This victim walked away feeling like she wasn’t heard and in this world and in this profession that’s a big deal,” said CMPD spokesperson Rob Tufano.

McQuirk took to twitter and YouTube to share what happened to her. That’s where Lt. Melanie Peacock found out what happened to her.

“We are rectifying the situation so it does not happen in the future,” Peacock said. “We are talking about potential drugs in the system… there is a time frame there where we need to act quickly.”

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police is investigating four other cases where victims say they were drugged and another four cases involving a sexual offense at the Epicenter this year. Detectives are trying to track down witnesses and surveillance video from that night.

In the meantime, police are asking anyone who drinks alcohol in a social setting to remember: watch your drink. Do not accept drinks from strangers, accept it directly from the server. Attend with friends who you know and trust. Do not leave your friends as it can potentially put you in a vulnerable situation. In the event someone feels strange or out-of-sorts, seek medical attention immediately. If you feel you or someone with you may have been drugged to report it to police as soon as possible.
