Arrest made after 9-year-old boy robbed at lemonade stand

- Authorities have made an arrest after a 9-year-old boy was robbed at gunpoint while selling lemonade Saturday afternoon in Monroe.

The robbery happened about 3 p.m. near the roundabout in St. John's Forest. A teenager reportedly walked up to the lemonade stand, stuck a gun to the boy's stomach and demanded money.

"It's pretty low, despicable in my book and I can't believe someone would stoop that low to steal money from him," Phillip Smith, the boy's father, told FOX 46 in a previous interview.

Union County Sheriff's deputies say they obtained security camera footage depicting an individual matching the suspect’s description near where the robbery happened.

Authorities said the suspect is a juvenile and said they will not be releasing his name and age. The suspect has been charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon as well as possession of drug paraphernalia.

In addition, a secure custody order was issued for the suspect, meaning he will be confined until his next custody hearing in juvenile court.

Earlier this week, Lowe's donated a brand new riding lawn mower to the boy after learning about the story.

Those living in the neighborhood have also shown a great deal of support.

"It feels great that the neighborhood came out. They have given him money, support. They gave him notes of encouragement they gave him letters. It's just great they came out in support of him."
