Charlotte, NC - Police arrested an internationally-known jewel thief Friday in Atlanta, Georgia.
According to Atlanta Police, Doris Payne, 85, was stopped by a loss prevention officer inside Buckhead's Phipps Plaza around 4:30 p.m. WAGA reports.
Payne reportedly stole jewelry from the South Park Mall in July, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police.
Payne allegedly slipped a pair of $690 diamond earrings into her pocket from the Christian Dior inside Saks Fifth Avenue. The incident was reportedly caught on surveillance video.
The loss prevention officer detained Payne inside the mall and reported finding the stolen earrings in her pocket.
Atlanta Police arrested Payne and took her to the Fulton County Jail where she is being held on a felony larceny warrant out of Mecklenburg County, North Carolina.
A $33,000 David Yurman engagement ring with a platinum band was stolen from the South Park Mall in July, according to a police report.
Payne was at the center of it all, according to CMPD.
Payne was the subject of a 2013 documentary titled "The Life and Crimes of Doris Payne." According to the film's summary, Payne "took" her first piece of jewelry at the age of 10.
Her criminal record dates back to the 1950's and she's been known to steal jewelry across the world.
Payne is scheduled for a preliminary hearing in Fulton County on November 6.
