Someone stole a family's all terrain vehicle out of public storage and now they need your help getting results. The ATV was discovered missing on July 8, but it's unclear when it was actually stolen out of storage.
"It just doesn't make sense," said owner, Ricky Goins.
When you put your valuables in public storage, you expect they're locked up tight.
According to a police report filed on July 8, a public storage facility on South Tryon Street in Charlotte was essentially open to the public because the front gate was missing. Without a gate, almost anything was up for grabs including a 2017 Polaris General 4 and custom trailer valued at $30,000.
"I pulled up and there was nothing but a license plate that they took off the trailer," said Goins.
Ricky Goins was the owner of the Polaris until someone stole it out of storage.. The vehicle was so new it had only been taken for a drive twice.
Goins still has the original keys, but won't be going for a ride anytime soon thanks to the public storage bandit.
"Why? Why would you do something like that. I mean I understand there are criminals, but you have no idea whose property it is or what we use it for," said Goins.
The Polaris that can easily seat four was purchased for quality time with family. Goins is now offering a $500 reward.
"I really appreciate any help that anyone can give," said Goins.
Anyone with information should call CMPD or Crimestoppers.
Goins provided FOX 46 Charlotte with the VIN numbers for both the Polaris and trailer.
