Authorities search for man accused of holding girlfriend captive for three days

- Authorities are searching for a man who is accused of holding his girlfriend captive for three days, according to the Catawba County Sheriff's Office. 

On Tuesday, June 5 around 8 p.m. deputies with the Sheriff's Office and Newton Police responded to the Love's Travel Stop at 1760 Southfork Dr. in reference to a woman in distress. 

Upon arrival, the woman told officers that she had just escaped from her abusive boyfriend, Jason Travis Shook. She said that Shook held her at a home in the 1900 block of Viewpoint Rd. for three days, and assaulted her several times during that time period.

She was taken to Frye Hospital where she was treated for her injuries. 

Investigators executed a search warrant at the Viewpoint Rd. home and seized evidence from the house. Investigators learned that Shook fled the scene prior to their arrival. His whereabouts are still unknown. 

Shook has an outstanding warrant for assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injuries. The investigation is still ongoing and more charges are possible. 

Officers with Hickory Police Department, NC Highway Patrol and Newton Police Department are assisting the Catawba County Sheriff's Office with this case.
