Authorities searching for missing handicap man in Gaston County

- UPDATE:   Russell Richard Roby has been located and is safe, according to Gaston County Police. 


Gaston County authorities are searching for a missing handicap man who was last seen leaving his house in Gaston County late Friday, according to Gaston County Police. 

Emergency crews are searching for Russell Richard Roby, 55, of 123 Laurel Hill Ln. in Gastonia. Roby has the mental capacity of a small child, according to police. He left his house around 11:20 pm Friday to go take a walk but never returned.

Roby is described as 6 feet tall with a thin build and balding. He was last seen wearing a lime green t-shirt, khaki shorts, tennis shoes and eye glasses. Roby has a speech impediment and normally wears hearing aids. Roby was not wearing his hearing aids at the time he left his home due to an ear infection. 

Police, EMS, and Fire officials are currently searching for Roby in the Dallas Spencer Mountain Rd. and Laurel Hill Ln. area. Anyone that has seen Roby or knows of his whereabouts are asked to call Gaston County Police at 704-866-3320 or call 911.
