CHARLOTTE, NC (FOX 46) - It's being called on e of the most successful scams the Better Business Bureau has seen involving the IRS and police.
Jennifer Comrey has first hand knowledge.
"It was basically like we are contacting you from the IRS because you owe taxes still. They said if I did not get in contact with them, if I didn't call this number back. iI would be arrested," said Comrey.
Tom Bartholomy with the BBB says in some cases the caller will even tell the victim there's a police car stationed close to their home .
In the past he'd advise people if a caller says their from the IRS it was a definite lie because the they'd never call you.
However, within the last two months, that has changed as the IRS is working with collection agencies
Jennifer adds that although she didn't get scammed going through the process keeps her alert.
