Body found in Hickory over weekend identified as Charlotte teen

- A body found in Hickory over the weekend has been identified as 19-year-old Marco Antonio Pablo Eleocadio, of Charlotte, according to the Catawba County Sheriff's Office.

His body was found on Saturday near woods on River Road off Highway 321.

Catawba county sheriff's office was having trouble identifying the body because there were no witnesses to the crime. So they did something a little unorthodox.

"Something you don't want the family to just to look at the paper and see it but without this photo, we wouldn't have been able to identify him," Catawba County Sheriff Coy Reid said.

Sheriff Reid sent out photos taken during the autopsy of Eleocadio to media outlets to share with the public on Tuesday. The Sheriff sent photos of Eleocadio’s tattoos and his face. We didn’t air the photo of his out of respect because they were taken after his passing.

"One of the newspapers did put it out, and the family saw it on the internet," Sheriff Reid said.

FOX 46 Charlotte spoke to Eleocadio's family who is still trying to process the news. They say they last saw him leaving for a landscaping job Friday morning with a friend. Later Friday night, he was seen with that friend once again and that friend told the family he last saw Eleocadio heading home that same night.

"We are trying to follow his pattern. Where did he go Friday? Who was the last person to see him alive? Hopefully, when we get these answers we'll know what happened," Sheriff Reid said.

Rhonda Krueger lives near where the body was found. She saw it on the news and realized it was only a few feet from her home.

"I was like where is that at? Is it closer to 328? Wait? When we found out it was the road just across the street, well, I can understand that somebody would dump a body over there because it's remote. We were talking, my husband and I, it has to be somebody who knows the area," Rhonda Krueger said.

Investigators say they believe the body was dumped here and are a lot closer to finding out what happened but won't release any information.

"I would be very happy if they found out who did it and put them in jail," Krueger said.

Deputies also say a person shot himself/herself in that same spot almost a month ago.
