MONROE, NC (FOX 46 WJZY) - The Union County Sheriff Office is investigating what led to what they are calling a possible drowning after a man's body was found in a pond.
Union county deputies were called to Harrintong Quick Road in Monroe around 3 p.m. Investigators currently ruling this as a death investigation.
They tell FOX 46, one neighbor living near the pond saw the man floating in the water. They went in to rescue the victim. When Deputies arrived, they found the man on the shoulder of the pond and First Responders tried to administer CPR but were unsuccessful.
Neighbors tell us people who live near the pond go fishing there.
The victim, described to be in his 30's and lived nearby with a roommate.
Deputies are continuing to gather evidence to rule if this was an accidental drowning or if foul play should be considered.
The Coroner’s office is planning an autopsy on Monday to clear a lot of unanswered questions.
