HUNTERSVILLE, NC (FOX 46 WJZY) - A body was found in the woods alongside the ramp from I-77 southbound to Gilead Road in Huntersville Sunday evening.
Officers told FOX 46 Charlotte, the I-77 southbound ramp to Gilead Road (Exit 23) would be closed for a significant amount of time as they conducted an investigation.
According to Huntersville Fire, they first responded around 6:15 p.m. for a “check the welfare of a subject down” on the exit ramp from I-77 to exit 23.
A driver reportedly spotted the body and called 911.
Fire officials advised drivers to avoid the area and use Exit 25 (Sam Furr Road) as an alternate route.
The exit ramp reopened around midnight.

The person has not yet been identified, and no word on the cause of death.
No further information has been released.
