Bridesmaids take legal action after Alfred Angelo files bankruptcy

- Derisa Joyner is helping her bridesmaids find new dresses following Alfred Angelo officials announcing bankruptcy.

“It’s frustrating. Not only because we have so many things as brides that we’re already focusing on and stressing about. But because this is something that we thought never would happen,” Joyner said.

Joyner didn’t buy her wedding dress from the company, but her bridesmaids spent about $200 a piece for gowns.

The ladies paid for the dresses in June and received a letter this week with details on filing a claim with the bankruptcy court. Joyner said they will not receive the dresses.

Fox 46 Charlotte reached out to the regional Better Business Bureau to ask about this situation. They monitor businesses and help guide customers who have issues like this.

President Tom Bartholomy said unless customers have a dress already made and sitting in a store, to file a bankruptcy claim. He said filing a claim doesn't guarantee a refund, but is the best legal option. He also suggested starting on a backup plan.

“Don’t hesitate in working with another bridal company to get the dresses and other things that you need for the big event,” Bartholomy said.

Joyner has decided to cover the fees for the second round of dresses.

“Just because I don’t want them to come out of pocket again with that amount of money,” Joyner said.
