Build-A-Bear halts 'Pay Your Age Day' over 'crowds and safety concerns'

- Build-A-Bear Workshop has closed the lines at all its U.S. stores due to huge "crowds and safety concerns" at its first-ever "Pay Your Age Day."

Build-A-Bear announced earlier this week that customers would be able to pay their current age for any bear inside stores on July 12

As the day approached, Build-A-Bear said it was expecting large crowds, but the amount of people pouring in for a furry friend has overwhelmed stores.

At Concord Mills Mall, there were at least 800 people in a line that stretched outside and around the building. The same could be said at Build-A-Bear locations nationwide. As a result, Build-A-Bear has stopped accepting new patrons.

"Per local authorities, we cannot accept additional Guests at our U.S. Build-A-Bear Workshop locations due to crowd and safety concerns," Build-A-Bear released in a statement on its website. "We have closed lines in our U.S. stores. We understand some of our Guests are disappointed and we will reach out directly as soon as possible."

The "Pay Your Age" deal was only available to Build-A-Bear Bonus Club members, but it's free to join. If you were thinking of trying to go online, you're out of luck there too. The offer is only valid in stores.
