Burke Co. deputy seriously injured in crash

- A Burke County deputy was involved in a serious overnight crash.

The deputy was answering a call for service regarding a breaking and entering in progress involving an armed person around 2:57 a.m. Thursday. 

Police said while traveling with his blue lights and sire on, the deputy collided with a vehicle on Hwy. 18 N. in Morganton. 

The driver had apparently turned the vehicle lights off and was turning around in the roadway, according to police.

The deputy was seriously injured and taken to the hospital. 

The other driver was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

State Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate.
