Suspect vehicle sought in shooting of Caldwell County deputy during traffic stop
CALDWELL COUNTY, NC (FOX 46 WJZY) - A manhunt is underway for the person responsible for shooting a sheriff's deputy during a traffic stop late Sunday night in Caldwell County.
The shooting happened on Cheraw Road near Pisgah Church Road around 11:30 p.m. Sunday, July 15.
Authorities said they're actively searching for a blue Toyota sedan, which they believe is the suspect’s vehicle.

The deputy, whose name has not been released, was wearing a protective vest but was shot below the vest. He was flown by helicopter to Carolinas Medical Center and is expected to make a full recovery.
The injured deputy has been with the Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office for just over a year.

The Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office along with the NC State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) and other area law enforcement agencies are currently investigating.
