CHARLOTTE, NC (FOX 46 WJZY) - “Cam’s Thanksgiving Jam,” an annual holiday outreach event, is now in its fifth year.
Carolina Panthers’ Cameron Newton and his foundation, partnered with Second Harvest Food Bank to provide hundreds of kids with meals for the holiday.
CEO of Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina, Kay Carter, said these kids will have a great holiday meal because of this event.
“Everything that you eat for Thanksgiving. It’s yams, it’s stuffing, it’s green beans, it’s you know, gravy of course. You can’t be in the south and not have some gravy. Turkeys. Cranberry sauce. All that goes into making a Thanksgiving meal,” Carter said.
For the first time, Newton also partnered with Topgolf Charlotte so kids could have a night of fun before leaving with their food bags.
Newton said close to 850 kids from several local counties took part in the event.
“This is just another piece of the puzzle of things that I feel as if it’s a necessity or something that I need to do so to speak. You know, when it happens, when it’s done the right way, it’s just like this, ran smoothly, and everybody’s having fun and the impact is greater than I can even imagine and I just want to keep using my influence in a positive way,” Newton said.
